Why He Won Ballon D’Or,2014 !

Love him or loathe him,the statistics ,the trophies and the performances back it Up and speak for him :2014 has Been Cristiano Ronaldo’s Year !

It has been an unprecedented year for the Portuguese Captain, one that has had all kinds of successes and land marks.

The Year started with Cristiano Ronaldo winning the much coveted Ballon D’or in Zurich, beating eternal rival Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich’s Talisman, Frank Ribery to the accolade synonymous to world player of the year.

The Real Madrid star, had a year one could split into three parts. He started the year off the blocks for Club and country very impressive, scoring with so much ease for Madrid and creating goals.

Then he had a period where injuries limited his productivity. Fortunately for him it did not handicap him enough to stop his team from staying on course for the trophies. Remember he limped off as they beat Borussia Dortmund in the Quarter Finals first leg of the Champions League 3-0.

This was the period from March to July 2014, when unfortunately for him he was half fit for the closing league games of the La Liga and the Champions league Final match against Athletico Madrid, though he still managed to score in the final.

This injury further hindered his 2014 World Cup in Brazil but was probably the only period where he seemed not to be the top man in world Soccer. He later confessed that he never really felt his country could be World Champions in Brazil anyway!

join-us-on-twitterSome might feel he does not deserve this credit, but definitely this will be coming from people who may not have seen him play a live match or …. Guess you know where am going!

Ronaldo in 2014, was not just all about attacking or walking whilst his team defended at all times etc but participated in assists to team mates, scored loads of Goals and effectively took part in defending by his team!

Of course other players like Arjen Robben of Bayern Munich was spectacular, Lionel Messi set some new records and carried his team up to the World Cup finals in Brazil, Gareth Bale’s pace and technique on the ball in movement has been spectacular too, Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich and Germany set a new trend for modern goalkeepers to follow etc but feel, no one player on the whole calendar Year average beats Ronaldo’s achievement in 2014!

Cristiano Ronaldo played 61 games in 2014, scored 61 goals and made 19 assists. Ronaldo led Real Madrid to the Uefa’s Champions League Title, Spanish Copa Del Rey Trophy, The European Super Cup and the Club World Cup just days ago In Morocco to close the year 2014.
