How “the Special One”Got His “Mojo” Back

The Moment Ivanovic struck the ball into the net past Joe Hart (for what turned out to be Chelsea’s Winning goal) I felt it was done and dusted, over, knowing Jose “the Happy special one” Mourinho

This was definitely the best and most entertaining encounter of the Premier league 2013/2014 and the victory has now thrown open the EPL title race for the top three(Chelsea, Man. City and leaders Arsenal).

In a game where tactics, technique and psychological warfare was on show, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea downed Manuel Pellegrini’s Man. City by a 1 goal to nil  victory.Though poor on goal count but full of entertainment and goal scoring chances. Chelsea struck the goal post on more than 3 occasions and Manchester City had chances roll by begging for finishing and in some occasions poor decision making cost them.

Tactical Analysis

Pellegrini chose to attack. playing two pure strikers in Dzeko and Negredo, shouldered by Silva and the ever present Yaya Toure,it was clear he wanted to carry his consecutive wins to 9 and notch a second victory over a Mourinho led side in more than 8 attempts.

it’s no secret they don’t like each other but you just have to like the way Mourinho countered Pellegrini’s tactics.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: “It’s just three points, now we have 42 more points to play for, Chelsea played very well but we had important players out missing. A lot of things like this affect the result, but even so I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. he continues “Today they had the luck to win, The race for the title is the same as it was before the match. For Chelsea it was important they didn’t go six points behind us but we stay just two points behind Arsenal.”

Mourinho chose to judiciously play David Luiz in central defensive midfield which gave a much needed cover and umbrella to the central defence line and crowd the middle, limiting space for city’s trio of Negredo,Dzeko and Silva. The midfielder who surprised most people however was Matic! he proved why he was bought and in most eyes is one of the men of the match.

Chelsea were not just counter attacking but absorbed City’s onslaught in style and when they countered, it was Chelsea of Mourinhos’s first season in 2004, Deadly!

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: “The next pre-season, me and my players will say openly that we are mature, solid from day one and are candidates for the league. This season is about evolution, We can [win the title] if they lose it [Manchester City]. Arsenal are working for many, many years for the evolution of their tea” he continues .”What we are doing this season is what Arsenal have been building to for years, It means nothing for us to come here and park the bus and win 1-0 in a lucky situation. The evolution is more important.”

Even in victory, still throwing under the belt jabs at rivals…Typical Mourinho 😉

Eden hazard was my man of the match. in a 93 minutes encounter he lost just twice the ball from over 35 possessions!

Was dangerous and initiated the winning Goal by Ivanovic.this  player is my man of the match and should he put up more performances like this all through the season, Chelsea will be clear favourites for the EPL title and Belgium stand a good chance at the next world cup in Brazil!

Technique, speed, strength, vision, eye for goal, passing skills and mental strenght, all were on display by Eden Hazard.

Yaya Touré gave it all but I somehow felt Manchester City were a bit too naive and tried to make it too beautiful at times.

on several occasions they could have played more direct at goal but chose to pass it into the net, most especially in the first half.

But take nothing away from Manchester city, this is a great team in the making and I see them still as strong title contenders, though Chelsea and Arsenal would beg to disagree, especially after last night!

                      My Take

It’s a game that’s all about Goals, though man. City dominated by over 65 % of possession Chelsea were brutally efficient and had double the amount of shots on target.  Man. City had 25 shots in total to Chelsea’s 18, 3 on target to Chelsea’s 6,  and 12 corners to Chelsea’s 6, says it all, no?

I was quite impressed by Man. City evolution and Barcelona like play, but Chelsea surprised us with a relatively better performance unlike the one we witnessed vs Arsenal at the Emirates

                                                      CHELSEA DESERVED TO WIN!

But don’t run away, these two teams square it up again in 12 days as they trade blows again, this time, in the 5th round of the FA Cup. Can’t wait to see the so called evolution!
