Champions League Dream Team 2012
Petr Cech: How Decisive the Chelsea Goal keeper was. The Miraculous save he made to deny Napoli a 4-1 victory turned out to be the key action that propelled Chelsea to qualification into the quarter finals. He further capped it up with world class saves most especially in the final Vs Bayern Munich. Outstanding for chelsea!
Danni Alves: Outstanding in his contribution not only offensively but also improved defensively from the last season. His contribution imensely helped Barcelona reach the semi-finals.
David Alaba: This 19 year old full back is not only the biggest revelation of this year’s champions league but in my opinion the best left full back in Europe this Season. His contribution to Bayern’s success is not measurable. Intelligent, phenomenal sense of positioning and always offers options forwards.
Sergio Ramos: The provisional central Defender was instrumental in helping Real Madrid Reach the Semi-finals. Defensively he was brilliant and his contribution in the team build up was remarkable
Javier Mascherano: this ex Liverpool defensive midfielder converted to central defense is a great asset to Barcelona. Was strong on the man, aggressive, solid and a good passer of the ball to start attacks for Barcelona from behind.
John Obi Mikel: Often criticized in the past for defensive lacunes, Mikel came off age this year and the tactics of His coach Roberto Di Mateo, meant he could have colleagues nearby to help. His game flourished and he sealed it up with a remarkable Final performance vs Bayern Munich.
Axel Witsel: This Ex-Standard Liege midfielder is the second best revelation of the season behind Alaba. His remarkable performances helped Benfica top their group and eliminate the legendary Man. United at a go. His performance helped Benfica play a resounding champions league season. His ability to change from defensive duties to attack is probably why top European clubs are interested in his services for next season!
Mezut Otzil: What a playmaker and Director chief of assists. This player is a beauty to watch on the ball and his vista is second to none. His trademark ‘in front of the colleague’s running path passes’ unlocked defenses and made Real Madrid strikers lethal.
Cristiano Ronaldo: One of the two extra terrestrials in modern day football, This season’s second highest goal scorer is definitely in contention for Best player of the year. With his mouth watering performances for Real Madrid. Not only did he score goals people dream about but he also created several for colleagues, added with his new team spirited play.
Lionel Messi: The other extra terrestrial in World football, practically scored most goals for Barcelona as they reached the semi finals. Little wonder he was once again the highest goal scorer in this season’s campaign breaking along the way his own record of number of goals scored in a champion’s league season.
Didier Drogba: The Pride of Africa and Mr. Big games! Chelsea owes their title greatly to him and what a dramatic campaign he had. Not only did he score decisive goals to lead his team to victory but added more suspense by gifting opponents in the semi-final and Final penalties, for them to miss, just before he became decisive by scoring the winners. What a Legendary way to kiss the European Champions league goodbye for 2011-2012: His kick was the last and it was the winner of the trophy!
Coach: Roberto Di Mateo (Chelsea): What a fairy tale story,6 months in charge as a coach and Winner of European clubs soccer biggest trophy. The intelligence to just play for results with a team lacking confidence, and hence unable to be spectacular was Genius!
Some would say it boils down just to the quality of the players etc, his predecessors had the same! Some would say they played “ugly” football,True but, unfortunately only winners are remembered in this sport.
