Lionel Messi & Barcelona’s warning To All!
It had all indications of a season destined to be a disaster for Barcelona, when the current 2014/2015 season kicked off last summer : New recruit and near record transfer, Luis Suarez, had just been handed a 4 month ban from all football related activities by FIFA (World football Governing Body) for biting Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini.
Neymar Junior had a mixed fortuned world cup and was recovering from a fractured vertebra in his spine, kneed in the back by Juan Zuniga at the world cup and the world was uncertain in what shape he would return .
Super star Lionel Messi, though named World cup 2014 player of the tournament, was still reeling from the disappointment of the Final loss to Germany and condemnation from certain sectors for not deserving the Best player award.
Then there were the Spanish national players, who suffered a humiliating exit in Brazil and were morally low. A record breaking season to remember was not what many predicted, but is now reality for Barcelona!
Some were sceptical of New coach, Luis Enrique, as being the right man for the job and matters got worse initially as he had fall outs with star players Messi and Gerard Piqué to name a few.
Fast forward to today and Barcelona has certainly the deadliest striking force in World Club football!
Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez have now scored an incredible 102 goals in all competitions for Barcelona this season, setting a new club record with 7 weeks left to play in the season!
Messi: 49 goals, Neymar: 32 goals and Suarez 21 goals
Barcelona are current league leaders in Spain ,champions league semi-finalists against Bayern Munich and playing some of the best football we have seen them play in 2 years!
Tiki Taka is, though reduced, still the brand of the Barcelona household and ageing midfielders, Iniesta and Xavi are no longer as influential as earlier years but the sector where Barcelona makes the difference, is its attack line.
The compatibility and the seeming genuine mutual respect and cooperation that reigns amongst the three strikers is almost unprecedented in Barcelona.
Luis Suarez has shaken off all rustiness that he initially had after purging his 4 months ban, terrorizing opposing defenders with intelligent runs and finishing and not with his biting skills!
Neymar has fully grown into the Barcelona star model by taking up more responsibility and becoming more decisive.
The man who many pundits credit mostly for the success of the ‘ménage à trois’ (French for “household of three”) is Lionel Messi.
Messi (Barcelona) seems to realise that he is not getting any younger, needs effective deputies to reduce the focus of opposing negative defence plans on him and seems to delegate more actions to the other two musketeers of Barcelona’s attack line(Neymar and Suarez)
The team itself when in difficulty now break into two halves: the three attackers and the others behind them. Only to break off in a manner that more than punishes the opposition in style.
Defensively Barcelona is better than last season and seems to manage better assaults on it than a year ago.
Gone are the days when all was built on the shoulders of Messi and in my opinion,if this is maintained, could be the right formula to extend the longevity of the Brand, Lionel Messi.
In a few days ,Barcelona kicks off its defining semi-finals encounter versus former boss, Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich as the past meets the present .
With Guardiola’s side depleted due to injuries to almost all first choice players, we should see this Barcelona side just qualify to its first Champions league finals in 4 years!
This might not be the near total dominating Barcelona under Pep Guardiola, but it is in no way less devastating in its ruthlessness for victory.
